~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 The Gregory-Portland High School Band is comprised of Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion players, freshmen through seniors. The band works on many of the fundamental playing skills, including sound production, intonation, and matching musical styles as composers dictate.
Objectives:
1. For students of all ability levels to enjoy performing music from a variety of style periods and genres - classical and contemporary styles.
2. For students to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the role music and the arts play in our society.
3. For students to learn the benefits and challenges of working together toward a common goal (i.e. public performances).
4. For students to grow in their individual study of an instrument. Students will grow in their technique and musicality.
5. For students to develop their listening skills in large and small group settings, using a variety of instructional methods and rehearsal techniques.
The CREED of the WILDCAT
It's true and blue as the sky.
All who believe it shall thrive.
And those who doubt abandon this goal.
For this is where all our dreams come true.
As with all things most important,
It is where our essence abides.
For the strength of the Wildcat is the member,
And the strength of the member is the Wildcat.
This is the Creed of the Wildcat.
                                             BRAVO Josh and Alex!
TMEA sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students' dedication to their musical knowledge and skill and to encourage TMEA member directors to support their students in this development. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. Over 1,500 students are selected through a process that begins with over 55,000 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 13 ensembles (bands, orchestras, and choirs). This competitive process begins throughout the state in auditions hosted by 28 TMEA Regions. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to compete against musicians from other Regions in seven TMEA Area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music group. These All-State students participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors during the annual state TMEA Clinic/Convention. Their performances before thousands of attendees bring this extraordinary event to a close.
